'Use Creativity to Overcome Monopoly'

CHENNAI: Creativity is a lethal weapon that can be used to break any monopoly, according to Bhaskar Ramamurthy, Director of IIT-M.

Speaking at the convocation of the National Institute of Fashion Technology on Friday, he cited the example of Apple phones that were able to overcome the monopoly. Ramamurthy added that creativity was the key to innovations. “With creativity, they pushed the core of the cellphone, wireless technology to the background and brought user interface to the foreground. They were able to take over the market because of this,” he said. Ramamurthy added that the jewellery industry and textile sectors provided the highest employment in the country after agriculture, and that there opportunities were available for young designers. Pointing to the richness of India’s textile and costume diversity of the country, he said that knowledge of the country’s tradition must be used to make new designs that were sustainable. As many as 157 students in six specialisations received their degrees on the occasion.
