Free uniforms were distributed to 2,000 children, besides pencils, pens, crayons, boxes and bags, at Sevalaya’s Mahakavi Bharathiyar Higher Secondary School in Tiruvallur district, which was started in 1988 with five children.

CHENNAI: Free uniforms were distributed to 2,000 children, besides pencils, pens, crayons, boxes and bags, at Sevalaya’s Mahakavi Bharathiyar Higher Secondary School in Tiruvallur district, which was started in 1988 with five children.

La Ganesan, national executive member of the BJP, who was the chief guest, distributed `30 lakh worth of notebooks and uniforms at the programme held recently. Besides, khadi saris and dhotis were given to the staff.

“God will help the children in the form of human beings. All one needs is faith,” said Ganesan, narrating stories that emphasised the values of honesty and discipline.

KGR Mohan, proprietor of KGR Apparels, who has been a continuous support to Sevalaya in providing the uniforms, congratulated the staff and management, thanking Muralidharan for giving an opportunity to be associated with Sevalaya.

Also present were district BJP functionaries — J Loganathan, Tiruvallur district, Geethanjani Sampath, secretary, Brick Manufacturers’ Association, R Madhusuthanan, district secretaries M Aswin Kumar and G Purushothaman, V Morarji Desai and B Gopal.

Earlier, V Muralidharan, founder and managing trustee, Sevalaya, welcomed the guests and MR Jambunaathan, centre head, city office, proposed a vote of thanks.
