CHENNAI: Madras High Court has granted more time to TNSTC in Salem to pay a paraplegic-turned accident victim in installments the `57.90 lakh award passed by a Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal.

The Tribunal on April 30, 2013 had awarded the amount with 7.5 per cent interest from the date of the claim to S Thenmozhi of Tirumangalam.

Aggrieved, the TNSTC filed an appeal in the High Court, which stayed the tribunal order, subject to the condition of remitting 50 per cent of the compensatory amount within eight weeks. However, due to severe financial crisis, the TNSTC was able to deposit only `10 lakh. Meanwhile, Thenmozhi filed an execution petition, following which the corporation filed an application for more time to deposit the money.
