CHENNAI: Three years after his death, the body of an octogenarian was exhumed by the CB-CID, which is probing if he was murdered by his own son to grab his property crores-worth.

On Thursday, a team of forensic experts and police officials dug up the grave of Frankfurt Fernandez who died in June 2011 and was buried at the Kilpauk cemetery. What forensic experts gather from the remains could be a solution to the series of puzzles that the mysterious death of renowned psychologist Emma Gonsalves (82) has left.

Doubts over the death of Frankfurt surfaced only after the suspicious death of his sister Emma at her posh apartment in Egmore in June this year. Probing Emma’s death, the investigators later found that she was beaten to death and did not die naturally as her nephew Immanuel Fernandez initially claimed to bury the body.

Subsequently, it was found that Immanuel possessed a will which, he claimed, was written by Emma passing on most of her properties to him. He was arrested on charges of forging the will and suppressing the death of Emma.

After Immanuel’s arrest, his brother Dawn Fernandez lodged a complaint with the Neelangarai police alleging that it was his brother Immanuel who killed their father Frankfurt in 2011 and similarly forged a will to inherit several properties that Frankfurt had left behind. Along with Emma’s murder probe, the CB-CID also took over the investigations into the death of Frankfurt from the Chennai City Police.

“We now have to wait for the forensic report before coming to any conclusion. Even after three years, there are chances of getting useful clues about the death of the person. Along this, we are also examining if the will supposedly left by Frankfurt is genuine,” said a police official.

The autopsy was conducted in the presence of Dr Selva Kumar of Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. Forensic and Revenue officials were also present. The forensic team also took samples of the bones from the cemetery for tests.
