CBI Sleuths Beaten Up During Raid

CHENNAI:Sleuths from CBI Bengaluru region, who were here in the city to probe a private realty firm in railway ticket reservation fraud, were allegedly thrashed by employees of the company located on second avenue in Anna Nagar on Wednesday evening.

Sources from the police department said that a six-member CBI team arrived to raid the firm around 4 pm.

The staff, who did not show any resistance to the raids initially, gave access to the sleuths to search the premises. A little later though, the staff ganged up on the officials and objected to the raid.

As the officials continued to carry out the raid, the staff allegedly assaulted the CBI officials and forced them out.

Subsequently, the staff locked the office and vanished before the CBI team could gather their senses. The CBI sleuths sealed the firm’s office and lodged a complaint with the Anna Nagar police.

However, a top police official denied any assault on CBI officials and maintained that the staff only obstructed the raid.

“We have registered a case and are pursuing it. We have not arrested anyone in this regard so far,” the official said.
