CHENNAI:  Developing mobile applications is fast becoming the career of choice for precocious school and college goers, and during the end of May, these student developers will have the opportunity to showcase their ideas to a host of investors.

The Global Mobile App Summit and Awards, set to be held in the city on May 28 and 29, will include a student app pitch fest, where students will be able to pitch ideas for mobile applications to angel investors.

“We have come up with this addition to the programme this year to encourage talented youngsters and to recognise them. The Make in India Student App Fest will take care of the need for a platform to help budding app developers,” said L Hemachandran, Advisory member, GMASA.

The conference will enable students to showcase their innovative app or app idea, and also provide an opportunity to get it off the ground with the help of an angel investor, he added. GMASA will also host an Entrepreneur Pitch Zone to connect app creators with investors.’ Students, according to organisers, can submit their apps online for free and the shortlisted ideas will be showcased at GMASA on May 29.

While the Student App Pitch Fest is merely part of the summit, playing a major part will be the awards for the best mobile app developers — judged on both success and innovation. “The applications for award nominations have thrown up some very interesting applications,” admitted C R Venkatesh, President, GMASA.

Any mobile app developer with an app on the Google App or Apple store can apply for the awards. “Winners will get a chance to contact potential sponsors and partners as well as workshops on to how to turn your local app into a global success,” said Venkatesh.
