When getting around the city is as hard as it is — what with flooded roads, caved in embankments and swaying bridges that are battling the currents — we decided to crowd-source what people are saying about #chennairains. here’s what we found...

Absolutely rubbish didn’t expect such attitude from a company like TCS. Absolutely no regard for employees safety and health. even after several warnings from the meteorological dept, no preparations were made for employees working in critical processes. Really sad that we were asked to vacate the building premises with no where to go in neck deep water. This is scary

Sad to see our city like this. Hope many more step out to volunteer tomorrow. All these support groups working independently need more volunteers. So if ur area is dry and safe and if you can step out to lend a hand please do

Yes! It’s official! We’re now living on the river banks! Hoping and praying God would be merciful and close heaven’s doors for now! If Anna Nagar is this bad, I can only imagine how the rest of the city must be! We can fight this Chennai! Hoping to see everyone on the sunny side soon! #ChennaiRains

We have been out the whole day rescuing stranded people and distributing food in very badly flooded areas. It has been overwhelming to see all the difficulties yet undying spirit of the city and hundreds of volunteers for civilian support. Most areas have neck deep water and I have just moved my family and dog out due to flooding in my area. I’m at a loss for words for the trust and confidence you have placed on me. Thanks to all

The oldest industrial estate in the country at Guindy is under 5 to 8 feet of water due to flooding of the Adyar river. Police have cordoned off the area since Wednesday. Evacuation of people by boats is in progress. After some persuasion, the Govt Small Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO) building in the estate have allowed about 20 dogs to go to the terrace. We are trying to get some food across but the building is surrounded by about five feet of water and the police are not permitting us to enter. Three vets are driving down from Bangalore now

We have delivered some 20000 food packets (bread & jam, lemon, tomato rice, pongal, etc). We have got a huge truck for the next few days

Finally, after all this trouble many people have been rescued and brought out to safe zones. Thank god for this. Few people are still there on their own will and proper food is being supplied through helicopters n they are safe and secure too. Water has been drained to hip level. Power of social media has been proved thanks a lot ppl! Let’s keep doin this good work. Nothing to worry. Stay calm. Thanks!! #Chennairains #humanityprevails #comebackchennai #Ramapuramchennaisaved
