PUDUCHERY: Chief minister N Rangasamy has said that the work for repair of roads damaged in the rain would commence within three days . The tender to repair the rain damaged roads has already been floated and the work order would be given.
The Chief minister who held a meeting with senior officials of the PWD and municipalities at his office last night, later said that the road repairing works would be completed before January end.
He said tat water has stagnated in several areas including Nadesan nagar, Pavanar Nagar and Venkatanagar and the officials have been directed to renovate the drainage channels and to construct new channels on a war footing for proper drainage of water and prevent the recurrence of the recent situation in future. The officials were also advised to take necessary steps to prevent any outbreak of infectious diseases and to drain water from the areas where it remained still stagnated.
He said a committee has been constituted to go into the issue of encroachment of drainages and it is conducting investigations .After proper survey ,the encroachments would be removed and new drainages and channels would he constructed.
Rain relief distribution from Next week : Rangasmay said that the distribution of rain relief would commence next week. A sum of Rs.153 crores have been allocated for the purpose and additional funds have been sought from the centre and is awaiting the same. The chief minister who said that an additional Rs.500 crores was sought from the centre for the state plan sector added that the rain relief of Rs.4000 each to ration card holders would be provided on Friday next. Since, the money has to come from a Mumbai Bank, the delay, he added.
