Speeding Bus Loses Footboard to Bump; 15 Hurt

CHENNAI:  Around 15 school students travelling on the footboard of an MTC bus escaped with minor injuries after the last two steps of the footboard caved in when the bus hit a bump at high speed in Mudichur near Tambaram on Monday. The accident happened around 8.30 am, a police officer said.

“Luckily, none of the students were grievously injured. All of them were treated as out-patients at the Chromepet Government Hospital.”

The MTC bus (route no.55 T) plying between Mannivakkam and Tambaram was moving near the cardboard company in Mudichur when the accident happened. “There were around 50 passengers in the bus and the school students were travelling footboard,” the officer added.

Chromepet traffic investigation wing police have registered a cases under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 337 (negligent driving) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the bus driver Sushil and conductor Govardhan and are investigating.
