CHENNAI: Corporation Commissioner Vikram Kapur released the city’s final electoral rolls in the presence of representatives of various political parties at the Ripon Building complex recently. As per the latest compilation, the city’s total electoral strength from its 16 state assembly constituencies stands at 38,34,388. This represents a 1.5 per cent increase from the draft electoral rolls, which were released on October 15, 2014. “A total of 57,922 people have been added to the tally from the draft rolls. Of these, 25,407 are first time voters,” a statement from the civic body read. The Corporation announced that the first time voters whose names were already included in the draft rolls would be issued identity cards immediately, while those whose names only made it in the final list would be issued cards on January 25, which is also national voters day.
