CHENNAI: Poompuhar Chennai is conducting an exhibition titled  ’Sculptures & Paintings’, at Amethyst, beginning on July 1. The exhibition will be on till July 5.  The upcoming exhibition, in line with its primary objective of preserving ancient handicrafts and improving the standard of living of craftspersons, will yet again showcase the best of sculptures and paintings.

 ‘Sculptures & Paintings’ will offer a space for artists from across  States in India. Each of the works representing each State has been selected to present the style of craftsmanship, which is unique to that State.

The show will have bronze icons, wood carvings, stone carvings, brass lamps, sandalwood carvings, rosewood carvings, Moradabad flower vase, etc. In the painting section, there will be a host of traditional paintings — from the native art of Thanjavur paintings in Tamil Nadu to Madhubani paintings of Bihar, to batik, glass, Jaipur paintings, and the rich in appeal velvet and gemstone paintings.

The Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited, popularly known as Poompuhar, a Government of Tamil Nadu undertaking, has been actively promoting handicrafts through its shows across the State. ever since its inception in 1973.

The exhibition will be on from July 1 to July 5 at The Folly, Next to Corporation Bank, Whites Road, Royapettah, from 10 am to  8 pm (including Sundays).  A special discount of 10 per cent will be offered on all items at the exhibition.
