CHENNAI: Velammal, Surapet, recently honoured the toppers of classes X and XII, and government schools in the vicinity. The event saw toppers attending the event along with their parents.
V Nanda Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Department of Revenue, Government of India, was the guest of honour. One of the school’s students, Yamini, stood State fourth and district first. Arumugam Natesan, senior director, Cognizant Technology Solutions, presided over as the special guest.
Anu Keerthana of Class X was another topper, who secured 499/500 and was placed first in the district as well as the State. Students with Cumulative Grade Points Average (CGPA) of 10 were offered free education, while 75 per cent scholarship was offered to students, who scored a total of 490-494 marks. Students, who scored between 487-489 marks, were given 50 per cent scholarship. Merit scholarship amounting to `80,94,766 was given away this year. As many as 400 students benefited from it, said Velumurugan, CEO of Velammal Educational Trust.
