42-Year-old Declared Brain Dead Gifts Lives Through Vital Organs

A 66-year-old woman from Pallikaranai was given a new lease of life through a liver transplant at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre (SRMC).

CHENNAI: A 66-year-old woman from Pallikaranai was given a new lease of life through a liver transplant at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre (SRMC). The liver was that of a 42-year-old Premkumar of Porur, who was declared brain dead early on Tuesday at SRMC. All his vital organs were donated and transplanted, as decided  by his family members.

Besides the liver, one kidney was transplanted on a 57-year-old male patient from Saidapet. Another kidney was given to Global Hospital and the heart to Fortis Hospital.  The corneas were retained by SRMC.
