CHENNAI:  Makers of Kamal Hassan’s latest film “Uttama Villain” have settled Rs 2 crore  to the film’s financier Thangam Cinemas as promised before the Madras High Court last week.

On April 24, producers N Lingusamy and N Subash Chandra Bose of Thirupathi Brothers Film Media Private Ltd gave an undertaking before Justice K Ravichandra Babu that the entire amount due would be settled before the release of the movie on May 1. The undertaking was given following a suit moved by S Thangaraj of Thangam Cinemas to recover the loan given to the producers.

When the suit came up before Justice K Ravichandra Babu, on Thursday, counsel for Thangam Cinemas informed the court that they have received the entire suit claim from the producer by way of demand draft and sought the court to refer the suit to Lok Adalat for withdrawal of the suit, so that he could get refund of appropriate court fees.

Accepting the counsel’s submission, the judge directed the registry to place the suit before the regular Lok Adalat for the limited purpose of withdrawal so as to enable the plaintiff to get refund of appropriate court fee.
