CHENNAI: Shresha CS is now a celebrity in her neighbourhood. She scored 1,194 on 1,200 in her board exam, an achievement that won't let her own the State rank holder's title as she opted for French as the second language, but one that got more camera crew than family members around her on Thursday, when the Class 12 results were declared.
However, even as the 17-year-old student of Velammal MHSS, the only State level topper from Chennai, is all over the place today, there is virtually no trace of her on Facebook. And she's got her mom to thank for it. “As a parent, I did not want my daughter to have any distractions - and there are too many. Thank god, Shresha has good friends,” says her ecstatic mother. The daughter concurs, “I have never liked Facebook or anything that distracted me from studies anyway...I don’t even have a TV in my house,” she added.
When asked about future plans, she immediately replies: Charted Accountancy. “I always wanted to pursue a professional course, but one that was not science related,” she adds a little later, looking almost tired of so many interviews at this point.
Shresha opted for French as the first language in which she scored 198/200. In Tamil Nadu, only those opting for Tamil would be considered for ranks. Shresha also managed the impressive feat of scoring 197 /200 in English to add to her already distinguished marksheet. All that time spent away from Facebook seems to have got her a near perfect score in English, and parents are convinced their daughter will write a book one day. Watch out Mr Bhagat!
