Namkeen Noodles and Chopstick Stories

CHENNAI: Ever had a hunger pang for Chinese food that can’t wait? The Chinese Story in Porur has the best solution. The restaurant, which was launched a few days ago in the presence of founder chairman of CavinKare, C K Ranganathan and actor Pooja Kumar of Uttama Villain fame, is offering a take-away box for those in a rush, according to one of the founders of the restaurant, Prasanna. “This concept has been introduced keeping in mind the fast-paced life today. It will be helpful for students who just want to grab something to eat, and also working people who are running against time. It will include noodles and a piece of chicken. They can have it while travelling in the car or bus,” he says. All one has to do is call up the restaurant and place an order for the number of boxes required, he adds.

On the other hand, for those who want to enjoy their dining experience at leisure, the restaurant has set up an ambience complete with artefacts and designed wallpapers that tell stories, says Prasanna. “Take every element inside, be it the wallpaper that has photos of Bollywood actors munching on Chinese food, stills of Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee from different movies, a set of swords to add to the aesthetics or the gong at the entrance, everything suggests a Chinese story,” he shares. Enter the restaurant, and one notices that even the table mats have snippets on chopsticks, toothpicks and suparis!

While the restaurant, being in its early stages of opening is deciding on its menu, Prasanna guarantees that unlike other Chinese eateries, they won’t try to excessively Indianise the cuisine. “It won’t be bland like Chinese food, but we won’t add extra colour and spice to add Indian flavouring either. We will try to retain the Chinese flavour,” he says. ”Our specialities include dragon chicken, namkeen noodles, phuket fish, date pan cake and honey noodles,” he adds. And with experienced chefs like chef Rajkumar and Kader on the team, they are already looking for a space on ECR to set up their new branch.

The Chinese Story is located at No 4 Mount Poonamallee High Road (Opposite DLF) Ramapuram, Porur. The restaurant is open from 11 am to 4 pm and 7 pm to 11 pm.
