Hunt for Cop-Attackers at KK Nagar Underway

CHENNAI:The city police is on a hunt for persons who assaulted a police inspector and a constable following the recent incident at KK Nagar, in which a youth was killed while being chased by the police.

A mob had surrounded traffic police inspector Sarguman and constable Sivanandam and severely assaulting them, after the policemen chased three youth on a bike, which ended in the gory accident.

The police have now taken a serious note on the assault and registered a case at KK Nagar police station. The officials have begun looking for the assailants.

Police sources said that the videos of the incident, which were captured by the public, were being analysed to identify the persons who manhandled the police men. The police have collected photos of around 10 men from various videos and are trying to trace their whereabouts.

On Saturday, a 19-year-old Selvam died after the bike on which he was riding triples with two of his friends hit on a median.

Selvam was thrown off and landed on the iron railings, which killed him in a few minutes.

A traffic police team is said to have chased the bike and grabbed the shirt of one of the riders, causing the bike to lose balance and the three to land on the iron railing.

Angered by this, an irate crowd had assaulted the police. The two policemen were shifted out of KK Nagar and placed under vacancy reserve list, pending departmental inquiry.
