A Sweet App to Help Diabetics

CHENNAI: Diabetics who are undergoing treatment at Dr Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centres can now rest easy about monitoring their daily sugar levels — as they can quickly upload it to the medical chains server via their their mobile app. Launched in the city on Monday, Dr Mohan’s Diabetes Management App will have much more than just information relay. “What we’re looking at is reaching our patients first, allowing them to record and upload their diabetes levels for our records, and then also make it easy for them to mail it or print it if need be,” explained Dr V Mohan, Chief Diabetologist. Eventually, the app is expected to be beneficial for all diabetics and not merely restrict itself to people who are patients of the centre.

Beyond this, the app will also offer people 12 modules — all of which are determined to make people beat diabetes or manage it better. “They will be interactive and have videos, facts and tips for people to ensure they get the right amount of exercise every day or eat the right quantity, given their current diabetic situation,” he added. The modules are light, easy to understand and have been designed in multimedia formats that will appeal to people across ages.

Unlike most other diabetes management apps, Dr Mohan’s has the advantage of being designed and developed wholly in the country — so the feel and look are extremely oriented to the Indian populace. “We have a partnering firm that has developed this app over the past few years using all our data and resources and insights,” he said. The app is currently available for Android and iOS, but is expected to be chargeable with a minor fee soon.
