Vandalur Zoo Witnesses Rise in Visitors

CHENNAI: The Arignar Anna Zoological Park has always been a sought-after destination by both parents and children, especially during vacations. This year too, the sweltering heat has not deterred people from flocking to the park. There has been a rise in number of visitors this time as compared to last year.

According to zoo officials, during May last year, the figures stood at 2,12,408, while this year, the number has already reached 2,28,867.

Officials have attributed the rise to the new facilities and improvisations made at the park.

“We have also been working all seven days in a week without any holiday this month to ensure that the visitors don’t face any problem,” said the official spokesperson of the zoo.

Including the animals brought from Rajendra Park in Mysore last October, the zoo now has 1,626 animals and birds belonging to 23 different species of which 15 belong to rare species. “We are planning more new things to make the zoo a crowd puller,” the official added.
