Personal Hygiene Key to Ward off Urine Infection

CHENNAI: Dysuria or neer kaduppu is a condition in which urine is expelled painfully and in small amounts every time. This is typically described to be a burning or stinging sensation. Most often it is a result of an infection of the urinary tract.

Causes & Symptoms

Excessive amount of acid present in the urine seems to produce the feeling of pain in the process of its excretion from the system.

The four main causes of dysuria are

  • Cystitis or inflammation of the bladder.
  • Inflammation of the urethra.
  • Sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea.
  • The cardinal symptoms of dysuria are 
  • Pain during the act of urination, pain in the penis in men, and lower abdomen in women.
  • Urine mixed with blood.

Siddha Perception

It is mainly due to elevated pittha. If dysuria is caused due to the presence of stones in the kidney or bladder; it is of vatha origin.

Tips to prevent dysuria

  • Ensure personal genital hygiene at all times. Women must clean their vagina after urination.
  • Tampons and sanitary pads must be regularly changed.
  • While bathing, the genitals must be washed with a mild soap.
  • Practice safe sex. Precautions must be taken to ensure that venereal diseases are not transmitted from one partner to another.
  • Care must be taken so as not to injure the genitals during sexual intercourse.
  • Smoking must be avoided.

Siddha Home Remedy

  • Water must be a prime component of the daily diet. Drink nearly 2-3 litres of water a day. This helps in more voluminous flow of urine and reduces the pain as the flow becomes more regulated.
  • Massage lower abdomen with lukewarm sesame oil for 20-30 minutes and then sit in a tub with water in it.
  • Buttermilk mixed with small onions is helpful as it contains good bacteria to fight against infections
  • Watermelon juice, tender coconut, lime and orange juices can be taken frequently.

Internal Medication

  •   Kukkil parpam 500 mg twice daily.
  •   Silasatthu parpam 500 mg twice a day with buttermilk.
  •   Neermulli kudineer 30 ml twice a day.
