Man Murders Brother-in-law for Abusing Sister

CHENNAI: Angered by his sister being abused often by her husband, the girl’s brother Pandian (25) allegedly killed his brother-in-law by throwing a stone on his head near Anakaputhur on Friday night. Police arrested Pandian (25) on Monday.

Police said that Pandian, a resident of Anakaputhur, was upset that his brother-in-law Ezhumalai (30), often under the influence of alcohol, abused his sister and never gave money for domestic expenditure.

“He warned Ezhumalai many times, but the latter never paid heed. On Friday, Pandian invited Ezhumalai for a booze in a remote area at Sankar Nagar,” police said. Pandian confessed to the police that they had a quarrel and in a fit of rage, he hit Ezhumalai with a stick and then threw a stone on him killing him near a cement godown.However, he escaped from the scene.

On Saturday morning, employees at the cement godown alerted the police about an unidentified male body which was later traced as Ezhumalai.  The Sankar Nagar police have registered a case and arrested Pandian.

Mason Electrocuted

One of three brothers, all of whom had come to the city to make a living, was electrocuted in their house near Triplicane on Sunday night

The deceased identified as Badan Das (21), a native of Odhisa moved to the city only three months ago. He worked along with his two brothers at a construction site in the city. On Sunday, the trio had dinner and were chatting. “At around 10.30 pm Badan tried to spit out of the window. For this he held an iron rod of the window bar and did not notice a live wire touching the rod. He was electrocuted,” said a senior police officer.

He was immediately rushed to a private hospital nearby where they declared him brought dead.

20 Huts Gutted

Around 20 huts were gutted in fire near Nehru Nagar, Chemmenchery during the wee hours of Monday morning, however, no causalities were reported.
