UP girl visiting dad goes missing in Chennai

A second year undergraduate student from Uttar Pradesh who had come to the city on May 10 to meet her father has been missing for the last five days.

A second year undergraduate student from Uttar Pradesh who had come to the city on May 10 to meet her father has been missing for the last five days.

The girl, identified as Pooja Mitra (20), went missing from her residence at Tirupati Street in Sowcarpet on Friday. She was staying in UP with grandparents, while her parents and two younger brothers are living in Chennai. She had come here for semester vacation and her father runs an eatery in the same area.

“On Friday, my brother left home at around 7.30 am. Half an hour later, I tried calling Pooja but did not get any response. I rushed home at around 9 am, only to find her missing,” said Alok Kumar, Pooja’s uncle.

Immediately, a complaint was registered at the Korukkupet police station who have launched a search for the girl.

“A family photo and her identity card were also missing,” said her uncle.

The family suspects that two boys of the same area were involved in the the girl's missing. “When I went through Pooja’s grandmother’s phone, I found Pooja had been talking to two boys from Chennai. The grandmother was not aware of this,” he added.
