CHENNAI: A bizarre wish to click a selfie against the backdrop of a moving train claimed the life a school student, who was mowed down by the same Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train at Vandalur near Chennai on Sunday evening.

According to Railway Protection Force (RPF) sources, Dena alias Dinesh Kumar (19), a class 12 student hailing from Poonamallee was on a fun trip to Arignar Anna Zoological Park at Vandalur. Accompanied by five of his friends, the youth crossed over to the railway track for taking a selfie. "Even as he was standing near the railway track and clicking a selfie on cellphone, a Chennai Beach bound EMU from Chengalpattu ran over him around 4.45 PM. He was dead," a RPF said. Later, his body was rushed to a nearby Government Hospital.

Claiming that his companions were under the influence of alcohol, officials could not confirm whether the deceased was also drunk. "The accident happened between Vandalur and Urapakkam railway stations," an official said.
