CHENNAI: VCK President Thol.Thirumavalavan on Wednesday requested the TN government to facilitate the release of Nalini and seven others convicted in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, who are languishing in prisons across the state.

Speaking to mediapersons after paying respect to Nalini's father, P.Sankaranarayanan, Thiruma said, "Nalini is the only female to serve more than 25 years in prison. Usually female life convicts are let out after 10 years. But, Nalini has been made to undergo this as she is involved in the Rajiv Gandhi assasination case."

He further appealed to CM J.Jayalalithaa to consider the pleas and ensure their release using the powers at her discretion. Condemning the police and prison department for being insensitive, he said, "Actor Sanjay Dutt has a National security act case against him. But he was granted parole easily. For Nalini, they have granted only twelve hours. They should extend permission by at least two days."

Police also prevented well wishers from talking to Nalini, he added.
