3 held for damaging bus during protest

CHENNAI: A day after two Plus-I students were allegedly killed by a police van near Anderson Road, three persons have been arrested for reportedly damaging the MTC buses in the same area on Sunday afternoon.

The arrested identified as Jayshankar, Stephen and Adalarasu were booked under the Public Property Damage Act and were remanded in  judicial custody on Monday.  The trio allegedly ransacked MTC buses while they staged a protest demanding action against the police driver who killed Solomon and S Ram Kumar.

Meanwhile, relatives of Solomon staged a protest near the Government General Hospital, seeking strict action against the accused. Neelagandan, MLA, met the family members and promised to look into the issue.

Police sources say Ezhumalai, the police driver was produced before the 14th court and Judge  Rajasimha Varma granted him bail on Monday morning.

Karunanidhi condemns police lathicharge in Ayanavaram

DMK president M Karunanidhi condemned the lathicharge on the public protesting the rash driving by police personnel on June 5 in Ayanavaram. Instead of taking action against the errant police personnel, they had lathicharged the general public, he added.
