CHENNAI: A Bench of the lok adalat awarded Rs 55 lakh, perhaps the highest compensation at the session conducted on Saturday, to the family members of a road accident victim.
Of the total amount, Rs 35 lakh will go to Amaravathi, mother, Rs 15 lakh to Kunche Suryanarayana, father and the remaining Rs 5 lakh to Aruna, sister of the victim.
Prasanna Babu Kunche (26), a software engineer with Mcafee, an MNC in Bangalore, travelled in a car to Jog Falls, along with his friends, on July 27, 2013. The car met with an accident in Ramsagar, Hasan district in Karnataka. Prasanna and one of his friends Arjun Narayanasamy died on the spot. Prasanna’s father, mother and sister, all residents of Chennai, moved a regular Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal here, which was referred to the Lok Adalat organised by the TN Sate Legal Services Authority on Saturday.
