Techie's wife murdered in Chrompet apartment

CHENNAI: A 37-year-old woman, wife of a techie, was found murdered in her first floor apartment at Nellayappar Street, Bharatipuram in Chrompet on Tuesday evening. The victim, J Krishnaveni, had deep cuts on her neck and abdomen, police said.

Krishnaveni lived with her husband Jeya Murugan (40), a software engineer, and two children. She was alone in the house when murdered. The gruesome killing came to light after a relative, Udayachandran, checked on Krishnaveni after being asked by her husband.

The woman was supposed to pick up her children from school around 4 pm and since she had failed to turn up, school authorities informed the father, police investigations revealed. Jeya Murugan had then alerted the relative, staying in the same area.

Preliminary investigations suggested that there was no forced entry into the house. “A person known to the victim should be behind the murder,” said a police officer.

Investigators claimed that no valuables were missing from the house. However, they did not rule out the possibility of an attempted sexual assault as the victim’s clothes were tattered. The body has been moved to the Chrompet Government Hospital for post mortem.

Investigators said, sniffer dogs led them to another apartment in the locality and neighbours too noticed a visitor entering Krishnaveni’s flat. Further investigations are on. The children, elder son studying class 7 and a daughter studying class 2 have been lodged with their grandparents, police said.
