CHENNAI: Two days before his wedding, a 30-year-old groom allegedly committed suicide near his house at Guduvanchery after he failed to arrange the required money.

Police said the deceased, R Vignesh, an accountant with a private firm in Oragadam, lived with his mother at Mahalakshmi Nagar in Guduvanchery.

He was to get married to a girl from Ayanavaram in Chennai on Thursday. And on Wednesday, when the family and relatives were busy with the arrangements for his wedding, he had a quarrel with his mother. His father had died when he was a boy.

According to sources Vignesh tried to arrange Rs two lakh for his wedding but was upset as he could not arrange the money.

“At around 3.30 pm, Vignesh had called his neighbour over his mobile and told her to take care of his mother and cut the call,” police said and added that he decided to end his life by jumping into a nearby well.

Neighbours who searched for him found his body in a 70 feet deep well, 600 meters from his house. They immediately informed the police and alerted the Maraimalai Nagar fire and rescue team which rushed to the spot and fished out the body.

A case has been registered by the Guduvanchery police.
