CHENNAI: Entry of visitors into both the domestic and international terminals of the Chennai airport has been banned till March 12 following a security alert in wake of reports of terrorists had sneaked into Gujarat from Pakistan to carry out attacks in the country.

Airport sources said the ban in visitors were imposed following instructions from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security. Country-wide security alert was issued after reports about that a group of Pakistan terrorists had sneaked into the country through Gujarat and planned to carry out attacks. While airport officials did not elaborate on the reason behind the clamp on visitors, police sources confirmed the security alert which directed banning entry of the visitors.

Meanwhile, the National Security Guards carried out mock drill on international terminal on Monday night. Even as the drill was conducted, a part of false ceiling crushed near the baggage conveyor. Airport officials said that it is a routine drill and passenger movements were not obstructed.
