CHENNAI: Two men escaped with about 17 sovereign gold jewellery, a half kilogram of silver articles and a LED TV after gagging up a 12-year-old boy, alone at his home in Thedukadu near Mappedu in neighbouring Thiruvallur district on Friday.
Around 4.50 pm, the duo gained entry into the house under the pretext of asking for water. The unsuspecting kid, S Madan let them in, police said.
The boy’s father, Sukumaran is an engineer at a private firm in Sriperumbudur. His mother, S Vanitha had left the home along with her elder son a few minutes before the duo forced themselves into their house.
According to a police officer, the duo asked the boy where the jewels are kept and the whereabouts of his parents. “After learning that the father would return only around 8 pm, they asked him to sit tight on the bed. The keys were in the cupboard itself,” the officer added.
They escaped with the jewels and also took away the LED TV before escaping. The elder son, Maran was the first to reach home and alerted his parents. “The duo had locked the boy inside the house before fleeing,” Tiruvallur DSP E Vijayakumar said.
Police said that the attackers neither attacked the boy nor did they threaten him with any weapons. “They seemed to have come on a two-wheeler. We have formed special teams to nab the suspects,” a senior police officer said. Senior police officers in Tiruvallur district inspected the scene following a complaint by the family members on Saturday. Cops suspect the robbers are known to the family members as they were aware of the whereabouts of the elders.
