CHENNAI: Dubbing Studio at MGR Varsity

An advanced visual effects and dubbing studio was inaugurated by film directors Mohan Raja and N Suseenthiran at the department of computer applications at Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute University in the presence of its president ACS Arun Kumar. This centre of excellence is another feather on the cap of the department. The chief guests distributed prizes to the winners of Women’s Day events. The rector, registrar, other varsity executives and faculty were present during the inauguration.     

Grandparents Day at Lady Andal

Around 300 students of the Montessori section and the Activity Centre of Lady Andal School presented ‘Sing Along 2016’. It was a visual treat to see the children  dressed up to highlight the theme ‘Health is wealth’. It was also a day to honour grandparents, some of whom showcased two dance perfomrances: The Dance of the Diyas and the Cumberland Reel.  

Rotary Club Honours Musicians

Rotary Club of Madras Midtown organised  a music programme ‘Everlasting melodies of AVM productions’ at Russian Cultural Centre. Ten musicians such as flutists, percussionist, tabla, playback singers, who worked with past generations of music directors were honoured by Rotary Club. The chief guest AVM Balasubramaniam of AVM Studios felicitated the awardees which was followed by light music of songs from films produced by the studio. Rotary Club of Madras Midtown president  RR Kumar welcomed the gathering and Ramachandran proposed a vote of thanks. The event was organised by chairman NM Ilangumaran. 

Convocation at Bharath Varsity

Bharath University hosted its 28th annual convocation to award degrees and medals to the graduates from 2015 batch at Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital. Dr Soumya Swaminathan, director general, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and secretary, Department of Health Research (DHR), was the chief guest. For the first time, six honoris causa doctorates were given to six people.
