Are You Ready to Tease Your Brain?

CHENNAI: The second edition of the international carnival extravaganza Lavaza 2016 by Vel Tech University, Chennai, is scheduled for March 18 and 19 at Vel Tech Dr RR & Dr SR Technical University, Avadi. Curated for technocrats of the country, this annual cultural event is set to tease your brain.

With a successful debut of the event in February 2015, the second edition is going to be bigger and better. The fest was the brain child of Beela Satyanarayana, vice chancellor. “The first year was extremely successful but efforts taken by professor Mathiyalagan paid off. Foreseeing the participation of 68 institutions and around 1,000 participants, the fest comprises over 20 cultural and intellectual events. “We are sure that this fest will enthrall students. We have a good mix of music, dance, arts and technical events. The Vel Tech students are excited about the technical events,” grins Kannan, senior member of the organising committee.

The events are divided into four categories: music, dance, fine arts and technology. The music event Vibrato consists of harmonics (vocal solo), jazz (instrumental solo) and sound check (light music). The dance event Step up has two main sub categories, Hop blast (Regional, folk, tribal dance) and Natyam (classical dance). Fine arts, being one of the highlights, showcases different events from calligraphy, mime to face painting.

The main part of the event is Technocrat, where the technical events unfold. The tech hunch quiz, poster design, reverse design engineering, robot war (race) and phrase hunt are some of the technical events, while, talkathon — where technical talks and opinions will be shared, is the major highlight. The winners of the competition will win exciting prizes worth `2 lakh and awards.

This two-day event will begin at 9:30am on March 18 at the Convention Centre of the university by the popular playback singer Grace Karunas. Music director S S Thaman, singer Grace Karunas, singer Noel Sean, and Radio Mirchi fame RJ Shah will be guests of honour at Lavaza 2016. Film director V V Vinayak will distribute the prizes and cash awards on March 19 at the same venue. The registration fee for students is `250 and one can participate in a minimum of five events. Accommodations for students from outside Chennai will also be provided.
