CHENNAI: The 18th annual Vocational Awards function of the Rotary Club of Chennai Towers, honouring achievers and contributors, was held recently. The 2016-recipients are Madhan (cartoonist and journalist) for arts, football coach N Thangaraj for sports, and C Durgadevi, founder of Mazhaikaga (NGO) for environment. This year two new awards were added, and they were given to V Balakrishnan (deputy commissioner of police) for his bravery and service during the December floods, and Deborah Thiagarajan for promoting the region’s culture. The lifetime Achievement Award was given to dancer Janardhanan, who is also a professor at Kalakshetra.
