CHENNAI: Vallamai ‘16, a special run for special children, has been happening for three consecutive years. This year, it was held at the YMCA Nandanam grounds. The run started around 8.30 am on Sunday and each runner had a volunteer to assist while running. But the volunteer had to struggle to keep up with Gokul, a special kid who was the winner, completing 1.5 km in just 7.27 minutes. Around 102 special children participated in the run that was over in 30 minutes. Students were given medals and certificates at the podium and it was heartening to see the little ones smiling while posing for pictures with their volunteers and parents in a selfie booth. Guests of honour — actors Prithvi and Besant Ravi, joined hands with the chief guest Sidharth Jayakumar, a banker with autism, to congratulate the team behind Vallamai for conducting the event.
