CHENNAI: Of the many women who received certificates for the first time in their lives, was Sarala, a young woman with multiple disabilities. Hailing from a labourer family with her brother being the sole breadwinner, she had not been able to work. But that was until Saturday. Because now Sarala can call herself a 'skilled' worker, which will help her find jobs.
As many as 60 women from Vadanallur village received certificates in courses like computers and tailoring after completing a six-month training organised by Sevalaya. The NGO has taken up short-term courses to make women in this village employable. Nearly 600 youngsters from the village had benefited from the courses held at this unit of Sevalaya and were placed in several firms. Swami Amurtanandaji Maharaj of Ramaksishna Mission gave certificates to the 10th batch of this training programme at Uttiramerur taluk.
