Chennai Metro Underground Trial in April

CHENNAI:  Chennai Metro Rail is likely to conduct a trial run in the 5 km underground stretch from Koyambedu to Shenoy Nagar next month using an inspection wagon, according to a Metro Rail official.

The source told Express their aim is to have the trial run till Nehru Park.

Chennai Metro rail is planning to inaugurate the elevated stretch between Little Mount to Airport as well as Koyambedu to Nehru Park at the same time.

“If all goes well, we will have both the inaugurations at the same time,” said sources.

It was earlier planned to include Chennai Egmore but there are some issues involved with signalling, said the source. Currently, tunnelling work is progressing between Chennai Egmore to Chennai Central.

Meanwhile, there is more good news for Chennaites. The Second Avenue Road linking Anna Nagar Roundtana to Thirumangalam will be spruced up and the barricades will be removed by the end of next month providing a much needed relief to motorists.

“We have already removed the barricades in Thirumangalam,” the official said.
