CHENNAI: The bar on visitor entry into Chennai Airport, announced soon after the blast in Brussels airport on March 22, was relaxed on Saturday.
While the security alert was first for a couple of days, it was extended following a series of calls which led to a mid-air diversion of a Jet Airways flight heading to Chennai besides grounding Indigo airlines flight from Chennai to New Delhi.
A total of 16 aircraft across the country were grounded and it led to panic among passengers. Airport authorities are concerned that there has been no breakthrough in detecting the source of hoax calls from the city.
“The cyber crime cell has to find out who created such a panic as all the calls turned out to be a hoax. We haven’t yet heard who the prankster was behind the calls that put 3,200 lives at stake,” said an airport source.
A phone call to Indigo Airline’s call centre in Chennai last Wednesday triggered a security scare, grounding 11 Indigo flights.
