52-yr-old Worker Attacked

Chennai: A 52-year-old technician was allegedly assaulted by members of South Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) in Perambur railway station here on  Saturday.The technician, Chandramohan, claimed he was attacked as he refused to get associated with the union activities.  Police said this is a fight between two unions.  

Probe Sought into Fraud

Chennai: Alleging irregularities in the State Higher Education Department in the past decade, the NET/SLET Association (Tamil Nadu) on Saturday sought a judiciary committee to look into its functioning.  In a statement, the association claimed there were 50,000 NET/SLET qualified persons currently without jobs. 

Two Held for Idol Theft

Chennai: Two men were arrested for allegedly stealing a bronze idol from Devi Karumariamman Temple in MKB Nagar on Friday.  Anandakumar (38) of Sathyamurthy Nagar in Vyasarpadi was arrested after he blurted out about the stolen idol in a Tasmac shop. He led cops to scrap dealer Shankar in Kodungayur who had the idol.  E

Self Immolation Attempt

Chennai: A woman was arrested on Friday for trying to set herself on fire in front of a police station following the arrest of her 48-year-old husband. 43--year-old Parvathi’s husband M Anandan, 48, was arrested for alleged assault on his mother at his house in Pattabiram. She had escaped to a kin’s house and filed a police complaint.
