In broad day light, a 19-year-old college student was kidnapped in a Jaguar car by a gang even as other passersby watched in shock.

CHENNAI: In broad day light, a 19-year-old college student was kidnapped in a Jaguar car by a gang even as other passersby watched in shock. 

The incident took place at CTH Road at Thirumullaivoyal in Chennai on Tuesday around 5 pm. The police started investigating after a CCTV footage (see video) of the kidnapping was showed to the police by the local residents.

Later on Tuesday night, a V Akash Ebenezer, 19, and a  resident of Shenoy Nagar went to the Thirumullaivoyal police station and told that he was the kidnapped person. He added that the kidnappers released him near Thirunindravur in the outskirts of the city, around 9 pm on the same day. He claimed that the kidnapping was due to a previous enmity.

A police officer, based on what Ebenezer told police, said, "Ebenzer has a murder case pending against him in the T P Chathiram police station. He was walking on the road as the motorbike he was riding with another person got punctured. As the other person took the motorbike to a puncture shop, he was kidnapped." 

The police officers, however, said they were not convinced by the Ebenezer's  claims and were further probing to identify the kidnappers through the CCTV footage. "We don't believe Ebenezer also and are investigating in all angles," said a police officer.

The incident was first reported by the public who saw a man, walking on the roadside, suddenly getting pulled into a Jaguar car by a gang of four or five men, who then zipped away from the place. 

From the video, it was clear that men who came in the Jaguar car had parked the car and were waiting for the the victim to cross the car. They suddenly opened the car doors and the gang forcibly took him inside.

A case of kidnapping has been registered based on complaint of one A Ganesan.
