Temple of justice must always remain open, says Chennai's outgoing Chief Justice

The outgoing Chief Justice said that he had repeatedly appealed to the members of the Bar that the choice of abstaining from work was not available to advocates.

CHENNAI: “It is my firm belief that the temple of justice has to remain open for litigants to knock the doors at any time. The closure of the temple shakes the faith of the common man,” said Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, who has been elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court.

In his reply to the felicitations offered by the Bar and the Bench of the Madras High Court at a simple function on Thursday, the outgoing Chief Justice said that it was only for this that he had repeatedly appealed to the members of the Bar that the choice of abstaining from work was not available to advocates who were in a noble profession.

Lawyers were the officers of the court who were meant to advance the cause of justice by pursuing cases of their clients, he added.
