CHENNAI: Chennai Live 104.8 FM celebrated their 10th anniversary in the city recently, with staff and listeners coming together at a fun-filled event complete with music and live sessions. Speaking on the occasion Geoffrey G Thomas, COO, Chennai Live, said that the journey has been wonderful so far. “We have good music, talk and programming, and have done a couple of shows that have become iconic over the years, like the Band Hunt, Voice of Chennai with Sanjay Pinto and so on. We have also been promoting artists doing original music in English,” he said.

To kick-start their celebrations, Chennai Live is planning to conduct a school quiz for students from Classes nine to twelve in August. The quiz will be moderated by Nawabzada Mohammed Asif Ali, Dewan to the Prince of Arcot, an avid quizzer himself. “Apart from this, we are also going to revamp Band Hunt this year, in a bigger way. We want it to be the talk of the country — we are looking at renewing recording contracts and sending them to perform at festivals abroad. We want to engage them throughout the year with concerts,” he added.

Geoffrey pointed out that a lot of people often misunderstand them as tending to ‘niche’ tastes in music because they play only English songs. “We speak various languages at home, but the common thread that binds all of us here together is the music that we like...which happens to be English music, which by no means should be considered as a conscious decision to branch out as a niche channel,” he explained.
