CHENNAI: A day after a fireman was killed and 47 others were injured, when they were trying to douse fire in a bakery which led to sudden explosion of an LPG near Kodungaiyur, police filed an FIR against two more persons on Monday.The Kodungaiyur police on Sunday registered a case under section 304 A (causing death due to negligence) against one Anandan, shop-owner, following which two more persons, Ram Gandhi and Nagarathnam, both building owners, were included.
A senior police officer said preliminary investigations reveal that norms have been violated in building the complex. “However, this can be cleared only after inquires with suspects,” he added.
While Anandan is hospitalised due to injuries he suffered in the fire accident, the other two are absconding, police said.
On Saturday night, the fire control room received a call about smoke at a bakery. When the fire personnel were trying to douse the fire, an LPG commercial gas exploded killing one fireman and injuring 47 others.
4 in critical condition
Among the 47 injured people, four are said to be critical and under treatment at the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital. A senior doctor in the burns department at KMC said that as on Monday, four people have more than 60 per cent burns – mostly facial and inhalation injuries. “They are under close watch at the intensive care unit. Among the 31 people (public) under treatment at KMC, over 16 have over 40 per cent burns,” the doctor added. Meanwhile, the three firemen and six police personnel who also sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at different private hospitals are said to be out of danger for now.

Leader of AIADMK-PTA O Panneerselvam on Monday visited those under treatment, at the Stanley Government Hospital and the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. The former CM told reporters that he would take up the issue of modernising Fire and Rescue Services in the Assembly. TNCC president Thirunavukkarasar also visited the injured persons at the hospitals.
