Three Tamil films to be screened at film festival in NYC

CHENNAI: Three Tamil fi lms — Vijay Sethupathi’s production venture Merku Thodarchi Malai, the Viddharth-starrer Oru Kidayin Karunai Manu and Kathir’s Sigai have been selected to screen at the 17th annual New York Indian Film Festival. According to a press release, it will take place from April 30 to May 7. Merku Thodarchi Malai directed by Lenin Bharathi has music by Ilaiyaraaja.

It showcases the struggles of people who live along the border of the Western Ghats. The fi lm has Antony and Gayathri in lead roles. The plot of Oru Kidayin Karunai Manu directed by Suresh Sengaiah (former assistant of Kaaka Muttai Manikandan) revolves around the ritual of offering goats to gods and the story unfolds from the point of view of the animal. Kathir, who was last seen in Kirumi, has done the lead role in Sigai. Directed by Jagadeesan Subu, it deals with the issue of sex trade and was shot in and around Chennai. There are nine pivotal characters and what happens to each of them in the course of time forms the crux of the story.—
