The deceased was identified as Ruban (40) of Thiruverkadu. He had been hired for painting work in the two-storeyed apartment at Tiruvalluvar Nagar. The injured, Ganeshkumar (42), also hailed from the same area and both worked together. They had been staying at the construction site since Wednesday.

“Work on the two-storey apartment is almost complete,” Thiruvanmiyur police told Express. “The duo were hired by contractor Dayalan for painting work. They went together to buy food and returned to the site and were eating on the third-floor terrace, next to the lift space. The two were allegedly under the influence of alcohol and an argument broke out between them. Ruban lost his balance and fell through the space. Ganeshkumar fell on him.

The police said the elevator passage work was not complete. Ruban was severely injured in the incident and he died on the spot. Ruban’s body was sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for postmortem. The injured was admitted there, the investigating officer said.
