CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed the district revenue officer in Kancheepuram to consider a plea to declare certain land in Thazhampur village in Kanchipuram as belonging to Sri Amerswara Swamy Temple and Sri Sadavarthy Choultry in Amaravathy in Andhra Pradesh.
Justice S Vaidyanathan issued the directive on September 14 while disposing of a writ petition from the temple and the choultry. The bench directed the temple executive officer N Srinivasa Reddy to appear before the DRO on October 6 to decide on the issue of declaration of land belonging to the temple as ‘Anadhinam’ by the State. The judge said the issues raised in the petition need to be probed in detail before the issuing ryotwari patta as prayed for by the petitioner temple.
Without delving into the merits of the matter, more particularly the fact that the matters were pending before the Andhra Pradesh High Court and the Supreme Court, the judge said he directed the DRO to consider the request of the petitioner temple based on the representations sent in 2004, 2008 and 2013 and pass appropriate orders after giving an opportunity of hearing to the petitioner temple and any other party concerned and dispose of those representations on merit and in accordance with law on or before November 30.
