Stand By Me, a four-minute video clip on transgender awareness, will be launched today. Directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, the video will have music by Santhosh Narayanan. The filmmaker said she was moved by the plight of transgenders, and wanted to change the mindset of the people. The album throws light on the situations that transgenders encounter on a daily basis.
“Many are qualified, and are denied jobs. Because of this, some are forced into sex work or turn into beggars. The album portrays their untold sufferings and the stigma they face. They don’t need sympathy, but we ought to be more empathetic.
We are one of the reasons why they are the way they are,” she says. “The song, written by Vivek, was in and around the city in four days. It is quite inspiring to work on such a topic as we have seen many transgenders break barriers and achieve milestones. This effort is dedicated to those who long for social recognition.”
