Conviction of cop in graft case upheld by Madras HC 

The Madras High Court has upheld the order of a lower court convicting and sentencing a head constable of the Bargur station in Krishnagiri district and imposing a fine of Rs 1,000 on him.

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has upheld the order of a lower court convicting and sentencing a head constable of the Bargur station in Krishnagiri district and imposing a fine of `1,000 on him for demanding and accepting a bribe of `2,000 from an accused for not arresting him.Justice G Jayachandran confirmed the sentence and fine, while dismissing an appeal from G Kandasamy on Monday.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate in Krishnagiri, who found the cop guilty of the charge, awarded the sentence and imposed the fine in 2009. Hence, the present appeal.“This court finds no reason to interfere with the trial court’s order,” Justice Jayachandran said and directed it to secure the accused in accordance with the law.Kandasamy demanded money from one Paranthaman, who was allegedly involved in a road accident.
