CHENNAI: Six mobile phone snatching incidents were reported in the city on Friday alone.
Last month, city police claimed that it was maintaining a high vigil at night. However, snatchers were finding ways to target victims in the early hours. Again, criminals seem to be indulging in snatchings at night. In the latest spree, four mobile snatching incidents were reported at Kodambakkam and Vadapalani. Police suspect the same gang to be involved in both the crimes.

“N Sanjay, 44 of Chromepet, working in a printing press at Kodambakkam, was talking on the phone and walking near a shop when two motorbike-borne men snatched his phone and escaped,” police said.
“Similarly, Mridula, 24 of Rangarajapuram Main Road, an assistant professor in a private college, was returning home when two bike-borne men snatched her phone and escaped,” said a police source.

In the same locality, two men wearing helmets snatched a phone from one Abhinaya and escaped. A few minutes later, two men snatched a mobile phone from one Nivetha who was walking at VOC Nagar.
Amitha a resident of Mahalingapuram in Kilpauk had finished shopping at T Nagar and hired an autorickshaw to reach home.

“As the auto was near Loyola college, two men on a bike snatched the phone from her and sped away,” said a police source. Police said during the evening hours, the area near Loyola College was prone to snatchings. Hence, there was patrolling, police claimed.  Meanwhile, at Shenoy Nagar, Sumathi was walking to her house when two men snatched her phone and escaped. A complaint is yet to be filed in this case, police said.
