CHENNAI: In yet another case of minor girls being sexually assaulted, two children below the age of 12 years were sexually assaulted in different incidents that came to light on Sunday. An 11-year-old girl studying in class 6 at a government school in the city, was “walking near her house, when a man pulled her into a street and sexually assaulted her. As the girl raised an alarm, he let her go,” said a police source.
The victim, who returned home crying, narrated the entire incident to her mother, who lodged a complaint. Investigation revealed that the suspect Govind Kumar, a native of Jharkhand, moved to the city four years ago and is working at an iron scrap company. “He lived along with his co-workers in the same locality where the victim resided,” said police.
In another incident, a seven-year-old girl was playing near her house, when Ravindran, her neighbour, gagged the child and took her to a secluded place. “He sexual assaulted the child and a few men who were passing by noticed this, caught the man and thrashed him,” said police. Ravindran, 40, was later handed over to the police. Both victims were taken for medical examination and the police arrested the two men.
