CHENNAI: Two policemen and a home guard who had gone to interrogate a man said to have been involved in red sanders smuggling were allegedly assaulted by four men in Sholavaram on Thursday evening.

A senior police officer said the Arivuchelvan, a constable attached to communal intelligence wing, Muthukrishnan, a constable attached to Esplanade police station and Perumal, a home guard attached to Korrukupet police station were to interrogate Kabeer of Nagathamman Nagar. However, it is still unclear why policemen from different wings had gone together and under whose direction, police sources said.

“Kabeer was allegedly involved in a red sanders smuggling case earlier. To inquire with him, the three had gone in Perumal’s car to Sholavaram,” said the officer.
